The FixMeStick was developed in 2011. Veterans of the computer security industry, Marty Algire and Corey Velan created a product that simplified the problem so many of their family and friends were facing: removing computer viruses!
With the FixMeStick, they made use of a security solution that has long been recognized by computer security experts, and made it accessible to non-technical people. The purpose of our company in 2011 was the same as it is today: Provide a virus removal solution for non-technical people that is easy to use, incredibly effective, and provides the best value in terms of time and money.
We launched the FixMeStick and sold it via our website. Our office was tiny, just enough space for a couple of desks, some computers, a small inventory of FixMeSticks and boxes to ship them in. We did interviews, product reviews, and met with anyone who could help us get the FixMeStick to people in need.
The online launch of the FixMeStick did so well that in 2013 it earned its way into major retail in Canada in 2013.
We’re proud of our Canadian roots. Canadians were our first customers, our first retail partners, and where our head office remains today. We’re happy to call the beautiful city of Montreal in Quebec our home.
2014 was a huge year for us! Capitalizing on our Canadian audience we earned a spot on one of our favourite CBC programs - Dragon’s Den! (Shark Tank is the American equivalent) Dragon’s Den gave amazing exposure. To this day, customers call us and tell us about how neat it is to be able to purchase a product from their favourite show.
We had been receiving inquiries for a FixMeStick for Mac product since our launch in 2012. Kickstarter was a great platform to see if there was sufficient interest to warrant building the product, and, there was! Over 1000 backers pledged to hit our goal of 50K and we launched the FixMeStick for Mac in the fall of 2014.
FixMeStick has grown by leaps and bounds over the course of 2015. We’re proud of our success so far and we’re excited for the future. In 2015 we were added to most major US retailers including Best Buy, Walmart, Target, Staples, Office Depot, and Sam’s Club. We also launched an exclusive Lifetime edition on The Home Shopping Network. Our purpose remains the same: Provide a virus removal solution for non-technical people that is easy to use, incredibly effective, and provides the best value in terms of time and money. As of 2015, we’re helping more people than ever before and we now have the team and the retail partners that will help many more people clean their own PC from the privacy of home.
2016 was a banner year. Five-year revenue growth of 2,372% landed us the 33rd ranking in Canada's PROFIT 500 ranking. Our exclusive Lifetime Edition also became available on Canada's The Shopping Channel as well as QVC UK.
We added a new and improved FixMeStick for Mac to our product line up with increased compatibility across newer models and greater usability for older computers. It's been a great year for FixMeStick and we're excited to see where it goes next, while remaining true to our goal to provide a simple virus-removal device for all!
