In only a few days those trick or treaters will be knocking at your door! Here are some spooky viral hacks to get you into the Halloween spirit.
VPNs like HotSpot Shield, Nord, and Express keep your personal files safe from hackers because VPNs ensure your data only goes to tightly locked servers which encrypt your data. Pair your FixMeStick with a VPN to keep your information safe from both dangerous viruses and nosy hackers.
Here are some of the most spooky hacks and malware around:
- Guccifer 2.0 is the persona who targeted the Democratic National Convention in 2016 to leak emails and personal files to Wikileaks and the media. They’ve claimed to be Romanian but US authorities suspect they work with Russian intelligence.
- HRG stands for His Royal Gingerness. While this sounds funny, HRG targeted the Norfolk and Norwich University and Norwich International Airport in 2015, shutting down their websites and systems.
- Internet Group Anonymous is an open network of hackers who use their tech savvy for political gain. During the Arab Spring they shut down government websites in Tunisia and Egypt to mute the governments and amplify the voices of the masses.
- The Janitor is a hacker who attacked 10 million Internet of Things (IoT) devices to control them through a malware called BrickerBot. They claimed to do this for good. This year, IoT attacks are on the rise so be sure to protect your router with a VPN.
Many breaches of the past year like the Yahoo! breach or the TicketMaster breach haven’t been claimed by any nefarious group of hackers, but they still count as hacks. Creepier still, The Economist reported the question of 2018 is not if you will be hacked but when you will be hacked.
VPNs should be part of your cyber security defense. Pair it with your FixMeStick to make sure you’re safe!
